War-themed multiplayer FPS game
Day of Defeat: Source is a premium action game for PC developed by Valve. It is a first-person shooter set during the bloody era of World War II. It revolves around the conflict between the Americans and Germans, and the battles they waged throughout the continent of Europe.
Taking the core game that was Day of Defeat, the remade Day of Defeat: Source utilizes a new game engine with updated assets and models for better visuals, as well as allowing it to add more features over the original that enhance the combat and overall multiplayer experience.
European Theater
Day of Defeat: Source takes place during World War II in one of the two main battlefields at the time, a series of locations in Europe known as the European Theater. It follows the struggle between the United States Army and the German Wehrmacht as they wage war across multiple locations, which are inspired by real-life events that happened in Italy, Sicily, and France.
There are two game modes, with the first being Territorial Control. As its name suggests, you will be vying for control over multiple strategic points spread across the map. The second is called Detonation, which entails planting bombs in crucial enemy weapon caches. There are over 15 maps available for the game that take place among the countries mentioned above.
No matter which side you choose, both factions have six character classes to choose from, each having a unique set of specializations and weapons to employ on the battlefield. Unfortunately, the game has experienced a gradual decline in active players over the years. It can be hard to find or create a session unless you have a group of friends with you.
A remade classic
In summary, Day of Defeat: Source has replaced the original as the definitive experience of one of Valve's classic multiplayer shooter games. The move to a new game engine gave it better visuals and features that enhanced the experience. It has seen better days, though, with fewer active players today. If you can round up some friends, give this one a try.
